Now that we got the whole series in Finnish, here are some of my thoughts regarding the series.
SPOILERI'm not going to lie, Byakuren no Fang is now one of my favorite of Yoshi's non-Ginga series, second only to Kacchuu no Senshi Gamu and that's mostly because BnF lacks KnSG's special brand of insanity that I love so much.
The story itself is great in all its simplicity: wolf to avenge the death of his mother and must climb the ranks of dog fighting. Not the most novel concept, but it works. The last volume feels a bit rushed, especially the conclusion to Ranmaru's character arc which just barely gets resolved, but not to the extent of KnSG or even TLW's recent, abrupt end. Zero finally beating Unryuu with a technique he shamelessly copied from him was really clever and a nice change from the "I shall teach you a legendary technique, now go vanquish our foes" mold we've come to expect of Ginga... though admittedly that cliche wasn't really a thing in Yoshi's works at that point, I guess. Also Ranmaru being forced to kill his father to (perhaps literally) inherit his fighting spirit is legitimately one of the more shocking and tragic plot twists he's ever written.
There aren't many named/important characters, which is probably a good thing because the ones we get are really good and interesting. My favorite is probably Dokuganryuu, due to his awesome design, backstory, and name. Zero himself sort of falls into the "Gin clone" box, but him being a kidnapped wolf prince and chiefly motivated by vengeance helps him stand out. His epiphany during his battle with Dokuganryuu stemming from things he saw and coming to understand them instead of his wolf blood or whatever also feels like a breath of fresh air after (or... before, I guess) GDW, GDWO and TLW turned "bearhound blood" into a catch-all battle-ending deus ex machina. He's still got the "naturally more badass than normal dogs" thing down, though that could maybe be excused as him being the son of the two most badass wolves in Siberia who's also been working out for most of his life.
The only character who I outright disliked (aside from Unryuu and Anzai, but they're really good at being villains so that's sort of the point) was Rou'ou, Makoto's father. I assume he tries to be some sort of "Gohei with comic relief" hybrid, and it just doesn't work. He's loud, abrasive, possibly an alcoholic, tries to be a womanizer despite being married, and his most major contributions to the plot are him lying to his son about a promise he knows is important to him and beating the absolute shit out of him, only stopping so he can go and pit him against Anzai in a no-holds-barred beatdown to teach him a lesson or some crap. He's like if you took Ginga, stripped out all the good parts and only left the toilet humor and overt machismo in and then consolidated those into a living, breathing human.
The art is late GNG in quality, so it's pretty great.
