Oh wow I didn't realize it would end RIGHT NOW. Feels very sudden again, just like the rushed endings of Noah and TLW. Surely this was planned to be a bit longer? I guess the readers weren't fond of this series either. I actually liked this series, but I totally understand why it won't gain mass popularity outside diehard Ginga fan circles.

Huh, also didn't expect the series to end quite this soon. It really does feel like a pattern with Yoshi's stories these days - a meandering story with little plot development that speeds into an abrupt ending. I'm starting to think it's not just Yoshi being constantly blindsided by publishers, but that maybe he's just not writing/drawing with coherent plot in mind anymore for whatever reason.

Anyway, don't even need to understand japanese to understand this weeks chapter - what a sad event.

This chapter confirms that Kuro is female... Which means I've got to go and fix every mention of her being referred to as male in last week's chapter... Grumble grumble

Anyway, I feel like this would have been properly heartbreaking if we'd actually been introduced to Kuro way earlier in the series instead of literally the previous chapter, especially seeing how it's mentioned she'd been in the family before Otto was even born. It's still sad, but the fact we're just told "oh, she was a very dear animal, we all loved her, Dad selling her off was like him selling a member of the family" instead of getting to see it first-hand kind of takes some of the emotional oomph away.

Yeah, reading this chapter makes me really sad. What's even worse is that the dick father doesn't even give a shit about Kuro's feelings. Well...not that he ever gives a shit about any animal's feelings or any person's feelings. Why not keep the female ox as an honorable elder instead of giving it away for who-knows-what if the asshole father was going to replace her with a machine?!

I would have been interested in seeing more of Otto/Yoshi's younger life. But honestly, I'm kind of relieved that next week is the end of the story because I definitely wouldn't want to see any more painful ass moments caused by the asshole father.

I remember the story of the borrowed manga from one of Yoshi end-of-volume essays, so I was already cringing at the start because I knew this was not going to end well...

Did you know that Popeye had a manga adaptation? Well now you know.

At least Yoshi spared us the story of his father throwing the homemade menko cards into the hearth, which is another thing he's mentioned in those essays of his.

Otto just outright roasts poor Nori for his drawing. Like damn, have some chill, Otto.

This whole chapter felt kinda rushed, mainly thanks to the first page just instantly showing Yoshi at Katsuo's place with no explanation. It feels like Yoshi just had to quickly cram in the stuff that foreshadows him becoming a mangaka (namely his first encounter with manga and him being good at drawing)... although that page where he randomly talks about his notebooks and textbooks came a bit out of the left field.

The ending feels a bit ambiguous regarding whether or not there'll be further series from Yoshi. On the one hand, it says "goodbye until we meet again" - but it doesn't explicitly mention a new series being on the horizon, unlike GDN. I guess it could go either way.

So we learn that Otto/Yoshi's father was such a huge asshole that didn't care about anyone's feelings and would occasionally find stupid reasons to unleash his abusive rage. Even the littlest reasons.

"What the hell's your problem?!" the asshole father asks as Otto is reading a manga book.

You know, I think Otto is the one who should be asking that question to YOU, you dick.

And oh God, why did it have to come down to this asshole using a manga book as toilet paper? Technically, it wasn't all Otto's fault because he didn't know that his father would pull such selfish shit like that. But it was a life lesson, for sure. Although I feel bad that the friendship between Otto and the other boy might have been shattered thanks to that dick father.

So that's how it ends, huh? I doubt it, due to Yoshi saying "goodbye until next time." But I hope Takahashi-san will now be allowed to retire.
