Farewell! Wolves of the North / Saraba! Kita no Okami
Topic for Takahashi's one-shot story first published in Super Jump Special Issue (20th January 1979) which can be read on the Legend Reader.
Thought of as a "pilot" bear-centric story before GNG was published.
Those who have read it - what did you think?
@methpring's request, here are some pictures of how it appears in the Super Jump Special
. The first 5 pages are colour, then 16 pages of black and orange print, then the rest is all in cyan print.
@FDQ here's a picture of the cover from my collection tumblr :>
(I actually mention Otoko no Tabidachi in this post so apparently I did know about it being in Otoko' after all. My memory is so hilariously bad.)

Ooh, color pages are always so beautiful! It's a shame that they don't publish them in manga volumes.
About the story. I think I would have liked it better if it were more, or all, about the wolves and their survival. Now they only appear at the begining and the end. The name of the story itself promises us wolves, what we get is humans vs. demonic bear feat. wolves ex machina.

Best manga at the moment: Moriarty the Patriot

Honestly I didn't expect much from this story. It was super short and didn't have place for character developement.
It was fun to read.

I thought it was pretty good for a short story. They did have the wolf pup the boy adopted through-out the whole story. Also, it was cool how they gave some info about Hokkaido wolves and their extinction at the end of the story.

I love this comic, just because of how ridiculous the title is and the plot is so sweet. Also mohawk wolf chibi pup is so cute.
