Like the title says, which Ohu generation did you connect with the most?
1st being Riki/Gin
2nd being Weed
3rd being Orion and the others
I technically would have grown up with the 3rd one, and for that reason I connect with them the best. I also have a soft spot for the second gen since GDW was the first exposure I had to the series in general
I do have a soft spot for the second generation though as the GDW anime is what first introduced me to Ginga. I also don't know enough about the third generation to have a connection to the characters.
Overall, 1st generation. I'm not too attached to the GDW and GDWO+ cast.
If we're strictly talking about the bearhound line though, I'll go with Orion and his siblings. It was refreshing to have siblings share the spotlight, and their dynamics were interesting.
Though I had more growing up around the first generation, and it's still very important to me because of Yoshi's early writing and art skills being much above that of recent, I've got to choose the third generation simply because of my enjoyment of the return to the normal story arcs. Weed was really good, though I did get bored around the Russian arc, perhaps because of just how long the manga was to read in one sitting. Orion is fun, thirty volumes, and his character grows over time kind of like Gin's did. I would even say that Orion's changes are more dramatic, and the lessons he has to learn have to do with himself and not those around him. Due to the quality of the writing, a lot of his internal change is up to speculation, but I love how his character was written, not only in his own series, but in TLW and Noah. Not only Orion, but the rest of the cast as well, barring a few, were very memorable and important to the story. We go to know the villains (Kama brothers) and even see them to through a whole character arc, changing from deplorable tyrants to allies of the Ohu army. Sadly they were all but forgotten until recently. If I had a lot of time to kill, I'd for sure go back and re-read Orion from the start

I do still like GDW though since it's got some of my favorite characters, and the story is pretty good up to a point. I don't care at all about Orion sadly.

I came on this thread to comment almost the exact same thing! I don't know much about Orion yet though, since I'm still reading the manga. GNG will probably never be beaten for me though!
I feel like I wanna say the first gen, but the second gen is close for me!
I'm just super nostalgic for the anime for both since it's what got me to the series!
I don't know much about Orion and his stories but hearing about what goes on in it, it kinda lessens my interest in continuing the manga

I would have to say the 1st, mostly because of Riki and Gin themselves. But the 3rd is a close second, as Orion and his friends Bon and Yamabiko are some of my favorite characters!
