GNG character popularity poll from 1986

Curiosity got the best of me so I ended up buying a copy of the issue where the poll was announced.

This group shot was also included in volume 16 of GNG (as well as other book releases of the series iirc), minus the names and voting numbers of course. In hindsight, it having originally been made to showcase all the characters for a poll kind of makes sense... imho it's a bit crowded and some of the positioning is a bit awkward (Suiga just hanging out sideways on the side and Raiga's brothers looking like they were included on him as an afterthought come to mind) so it being a promotional image that just had to have all eight characters explains a lot.

It's interesting to see how they had to include some interesting choices to make up for the lack of characters at the time. You definitely wouldn't expect to see Madara in a Ginga character popularity poll nowadays.


Also, it's specifically labeled as being a poll about the popularity of animal characters, explaining why there aren't any humans included.

Just to clarify, the numbers in the image are the ones you'd write in the form to vote for the character, not the final results. According to Nara's post on the previous page, Gin ended up coming in first.

Side note: the results box misspells Cross (クロス, kurosu) as "Kuwasu" (クワス)...
